Legal Structures for Social Enterprise (Vancouver Workshop)

November 8, 2010

Legal Structures for Social Enterprise

November 16th, SFU @ Harbour Centre, Vancouver

2-4 pm, Room 1400-1410

On October 20, the BC Ministry of Finance announced that it is 'considering amendments to the Business Corporations Act to allow for the incorporation of a new hybrid type of company - the Community Interest Company - which would both benefit the larger community and allow limited investor returns within the context of a traditional for-profit company.' Feedback from the sector is requested by December 1st.

This free workshop presents an overview of the legal structures currently available for community-based organizations operating social enterprises in Canada, and outlines the features and possible limitations of these structures. We'll also review some of the international innovations with respect to legal structures designed specifically to aid enterprising community organizations.

This session is for you if:

- Your organization is operating or considering launching a social enterprise;

- You would like background information before providing your feedback to the BC Government consultation.

Seating is limited for this free workshop.  To register, e-mail stacey@centreforsocialenterprise.com with you name, organization, and the number of registrants.
