Social economy funding sources added to our Resource Library

August 16, 2010
Our website is now home to an exciting new database of BC and Alberta Social Economy Funders. As many of you know, it can be confusing and overwhelming to find funding and financing for social enterprises. This database is designed to help social enterprises and funders/financers find each other more easily. Go to our Resource Library and search for keyword in Social Economy Funders - type of funding.

You can also view Pdf document versions (one each for BC & AB) organized by geography, and you can quickly jump from the Table of Contents to a listed funder by clicking their name. These can be found here: BC Social Economy Funder Database or Alberta Social Economy Funder Database

This database is one result of a research project designed to capture the scope and characteristics of social economy funders in BC and Alberta. Across BC, 80 organizations were identified as possible funders addressing the local social economy; in Alberta, 47 organizations were contacted. Another 42 organizations were identified with national delivery mandates. The data collected will be integrated into ongoing research on mapping the social economy in BC and Alberta, providing valuable information to practitioners, academics and policy makers with the aim to strengthen the social economy in Western Canada.

BALTA (BC-Alberta Social Economy Research Alliance) has partnered with ISIS a Research Centre at Sauder School of Business UBC, Vancity, Canadian Centre for Community Renewal and Enterprising Non-Profits (enp) to execute this project.
