A lot of research has been done over the years by different organizations both in Canada and around the world on the subject of social enterprise.

• Social Enterprise Access to Government SME Services: Challenges and Opportunities (2011): Research by enp on social enterprise access to Federal, Provincial, and Territorial (F/P/T) funded services for small and medium enterprise (SME).
• Strength, Size, Scope: A Survey of Social Enterprises in Alberta and British Columbia: A report funded by The BC- Alberta BC-Alberta Social Economy Research Alliance (BALTA) in collaboration with Mount Royal University and Simon Fraser University that profiles data from 140 of 295 social enterprises in BC and Alberta.
